5 Diet Tips for Staying Healthy This Thanksgiving

The holidays are fun and fulfilling, but a healthy diet often goes out the window during these next couple of months. Just as you get past all that candy from Halloween, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It’s a time to feast and enjoy family time, yet that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise some restraint.

CORE Physical Therapy has put together this list of five diet and fitness tips for a healthier Thanksgiving.

1. Start with a Hearty Breakfast

Begin your day with breakfast. Eat a hearty and healthy breakfast like rolled oats or a veggie scramble and a fresh fruit to kick start the day.

 2. Bring a Healthy Dish

If you are invited to a party or family Thanksgiving dinner, offer to bring a healthy dish along. It will give you an alternative from some of the unhealthier dishes, and other guests will probably appreciate it, as well.

3. Take Your Time

It’s tempting to stuff as much food in your face as quickly as you can. Take your time and eat slowly. You will fill up more and not feel so stuffed afterward.

4. Stay Hydrated

Many Thanksgiving foods can be loaded with sodium, which is why it’s especially important to stay hydrated. Opt for water during your meals or keep a reusable water bottle handy.

 5. Sneak in Some Exercise

Whether it’s walking around the block or shooting some hoops with family, it’s important to stay active during turkey season. At CORE, we’re offering various fitness classes during November that will help you stay on top of your fitness goals. Take a look at our class calendar for more information.

We at CORE Physical Therapy hope you find these tips helpful. With a little moderation and smart thinking, you can enjoy your Thanksgiving feast while still staying healthy.
